Dag Nasty
Post-hardcore band formed by Minor Threat's Brian Baker during Revolution Summer (1985), blending hardcore speed with melodic pop-punk hooks. Baker had wanted Minor Threat to evolve toward U2's expansiveness; with Dag Nasty, he got to explore that melodic territory while maintaining hardcore's energy. The band proved speed and melody weren't mutually exclusive, helping expand post-hardcore's sonic palette. Their approach influenced the youth crew movement and melodic hardcore that emerged in the late '80s.
