This compilation gave the genre its name and introduced Detroit's sound to UK audiences.

Released in 1988 on Virgin's Ten Records, this compilation gave the genre its name and introduced Detroit's sound to UK audiences, gathering the Belleville Three and their collaborators onto one record. It arrived because Neil Rushton came to Detroit looking for house music and found something else entirely — a distinct machine-built sound with its own logic and its own, still-unnamed identity.
