Sister

Sister, released in 1987 and loosely inspired by the novels of Philip K. Dick, became the first Sonic Youth album to crack the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop Top 20, a real marker of no wave's slow acceptance by mainstream critics. By this point the band had refined its use of alternate tunings and prepared guitars into something closer to a system: dozens of tunings, specific guitars dedicated to specific songs, the chaos of the early records now organized without losing its edge.
