NYC No Wave
For the obsessed · 1977-1984

Goo, released in 1990 on the major label Geffen, brought no wave's influence into alternative rock's biggest commercial moment, helped along by 'Kool Thing,' which featured a guest appearance from Chuck D. Even with a major-label budget, the band kept its experimental instincts intact. As Kim Gordon later noted, Sonic Youth would go on to spend around $150,000 on later records without losing the sensibility that got them started in downtown lofts a decade earlier.
