Artists from Atlanta

  • Outkast

André 3000 and Big Boi met as sixteen-year-olds at Lenox Square mall and kept running into each other, which led to freestyling in the cafeteria at Tri-Cities High School.

  • Organized Noize

Rico Wade, Ray Murray, and Sleepy Brown built Atlanta's foundational sound in a basement that had no air conditioning: Rico's mother's house, a space that became legend under the name the Dungeon.

  • Goodie Mob

Cee-Lo Green, Big Gipp, Khujo, and T-Mo made up Goodie Mob, Dungeon Family members whose 1995 debut Soul Food was produced entirely by Organized Noize in Rico Wade's un-air-conditioned basement.
