Goodie Mob

1991-present·Atlanta

Atlanta group and Dungeon Family members whose 1995 debut Soul Food, entirely produced by Organized Noize in Rico Wade's un-air-conditioned basement studio, established the city's socially conscious, Southern soul-influenced rap aesthetic as a counterpoint to gangsta rap, with members appearing on Outkast's early recordings as part of the fluid collaborative troupe where, as Ray Murray noted, "we all considered ourselves OutKast at the time—including all of Organized Noize and the Goodie Mob members who appeared on the album," creating a non-hierarchical collective that redefined how Atlanta artists worked together and what Southern hip-hop could say.

Soul Food

1995

Dungeon Family debut released in 1995, entirely produced by Organized Noize in Rico Wade's un-air-conditioned basement, that established Atlanta's socially conscious, Southern soul-influenced aesthetic as a counterpoint to gangsta rap's commercial dominance, with Ray Murray noting that when working on the OutKast vibe, "we all considered ourselves OutKast at the time—including all of Organized Noize and the Goodie Mob members who appeared on the album," the fluid collaborative approach creating a collective identity where artists cycled through sessions and contributed to each other's work in ways that made individual credit less important than the shared vision of putting Southern lifestyle and perspective first.
