William Bennett's Whitehouse pushed industrial past music entirely and into something closer to assault: screeching feedback, sub-bass pulses, screamed vocals, and a refusal of melody on principle. Active from 1980 until their dissolution in 2008, they never made the smallest commercial concession, and that refusal is precisely why they mattered.
