The Velvet Underground

1964-1973·New York City

1960s New York band mixing Lou Reed's noise rock, John Cale's minimalist drones, and Andy Warhol's Factory aesthetics. Their legacy hung heavy over Downtown by mid-seventies, but the new generation wanted to push further into the void. Provided comprehensive model for no wave's experimental approach: the idea that rock instrumentation could be used for something entirely other than conventional songs.
