Artist
Francis Grasso
Francis Grasso DJed at the Sanctuary in the early 1970s, a venue taken over by entrepreneurs Seymour and Shelley, who made it the first New York nightclub to openly welcome gay dancers. Grasso is credited as an early innovator of beatmatching and slip-cueing, techniques that let a DJ blend one record into the next without breaking the floor's momentum, and that turned DJing from playback into something closer to composition.
