Curve, a London duo, took shoegaze somewhere darker and more machine-driven on their 1991 debut Doppelgänger, folding drum machines and electronic textures into the genre's usual walls of guitar. They represented its more experimental fringe, closer to industrial than dream pop, and outlasted most of their peers by adapting rather than repeating themselves—they didn't call it quits until 2005.
