Coil
1982-2004
Coil grew directly out of Throbbing Gristle's ashes, formed by Peter Christopherson and John Balance to chase dark ambient and experimental electronic music into occult and psychedelic territory, with transgressive sexuality running through the work as a constant theme. Christopherson eventually relocated to Bangkok, where he told The Quietus he had found a more fulfilling life and creative environment than England had offered him.
