Cannibal Corpse

1988-present·Buffalo

Though formed in Buffalo, New York in 1988, Cannibal Corpse relocated to Tampa and recorded most of their early albums at Morrisound, specifically to be near the studio. Suffocation guitarist Terrance Hobbs called Morrisound "the Mecca for death metal and heavy metal" during the 1990s, drawing bands from around the world who wanted to be "close to the studio." Chris Barnes said "Scott knew what to do with fast and brutal bands, and not a lot of guys did at the time." They became the best-selling death metal band of the SoundScan era, pushing lyrical extremity to its limit with graphic violence and gore. Steve Tucker of Morbid Angel noted in a 2019 interview: "It's an anomaly for a band like Morbid Angel to stick around so long. It's like Cannibal Corpse. I guarantee anyone in that band wouldn't have thought they would last 30 years."
