Walthamstow

UK

Walthamstow produced some of grime's most influential artists, most notably Lethal Bizzle, whose 2004 anthem "Pow! (Forward)" with More Fire Crew became grime's first major crossover moment and was subsequently banned from radio for its perceived incitement potential. The area's proximity to core East London allowed its MCs to participate fully in the pirate radio circuit while developing a distinct local scene. Walthamstow's contribution to grime's expansion beyond its Bow origins helped establish the genre across a broader North and East London geography.
