Artists from San Juan

  • Daddy Yankee

Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez was born in Santurce in 1976 and raised on a straightforward plan: pitch his way out of the projects to the Seattle Mariners.

  • DJ Playero

Pedro Gerardo Torruellas Brito got his name from a surf-apparel shop — he wore a different Playero T-shirt to every gig until the nickname stuck.

  • Vico C

Luis Armando Lozada Cruz was born in Brooklyn, raised in San Juan, and became the first to prove Spanish-language rap could stand on its own.
