Zed Bias

1998-present·London

Producer who pushed garage into darker, more experimental territory in the early 2000s, stripping away R&B vocals and aspirational sheen to leave skeletal beats and sub-bass weight. His dark garage productions laid groundwork for dubstep, appearing on Tempa's 2006 *Roots of Dubstep* compilation that traced the evolutionary link. MJ Cole cited him among producers exploring new directions when describing the UK funky phenomenon to DJ Mag. He returned to the scene in the 2010s revival, his experimental approach having expanded the genre's boundaries and influenced a new generation.
