Ron Hardy
Ron Hardy got his start at nineteen, not at the Music Box but years earlier at a club called Den One on Chicago's North Side, in a building that had once housed a Paul Bunyan-themed family restaurant complete with statues of the giant lumberjack and his blue ox. The neighborhood, Old Town, had been a hippie hangout and a flashpoint for clashes during the 1968 Democratic Convention; by the time Hardy started there in 1977 it was also home to a red-light strip and a gay community, the club sitting next door to a porn theater that is, remarkably, still in business.
