Manny Ansar

1993-present

Mohamed Aly Ansar studied international law at the University of Bamako by day and, by his own account, dreamed at night of standing near a stage in the middle of the desert as a helicopter came down carrying the Swedish pop group ABBA, with himself there to receive them. Thirty years later a version of that dream came true, only the passenger was Bono: on January 12, 2012, Ansar stood at the airport outside Timbuktu waiting for U2's frontman to land for the Festival in the Desert.
