Heavens to Betsy was Corin Tucker's first band, an influential first-generation riot grrrl outfit that played the 1991 International Pop Underground Convention in Olympia. Tucker sang in an intentionally harsh, high keening wail, a sound built to unsettle rather than please, to demand a listener's attention instead of asking for approval. The band disbanded in 1994, and Tucker went on to form Sleater-Kinney with Carrie Brownstein.
