Explosions in the Sky
Texas instrumental band from Austin whose cinematic approach brought post-rock to television and film soundtracks, most famously Friday Night Lights, introducing the genre to mainstream audiences who might never have sought out Slint or Godspeed. Carried the crescendo-driven torch into the 2000s alongside This Will Destroy You, proving the quiet-loud-quiet dynamic could work in visual media without losing its emotional impact. Made post-rock accessible without watering it down, showing that the genre's patient build-ups and dramatic releases could enhance storytelling in other media.
