The Gerogerigegege
Juntaro Yamanouchi started The Gerogerigegege in Shinjuku, Tokyo, in 1985, and pushed noise into territory even Merzbow's admirers found hard to stomach. The project mixed harsh electronics and found sound with pornographic imagery, bodily noise, and deliberately offensive content, released prolifically on cassette through underground tape-trading networks rather than any label with a storefront.
