GusGus
Founded in the mid-1990s, GusGus became Iceland's most successful electronic music export, releasing nine studio albums while never losing the melancholy undertow that marks so much Icelandic music, even when the surface is built for the dance floor. They're proof that the country's experimental instincts didn't need to be sanded down to work in club-oriented contexts — the distinctive character that made Icelandic music recognizable elsewhere in the world came through just fine on a four-on-the-floor beat.
