Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel created downtempo, analog-rich textures that complemented French house without being house music themselves. Though not house producers, they shared the scene's retro-futurist aesthetic and were signed to Virgin alongside Daft Punk and Cassius. Directors like Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze shot videos for them, creating a unified visual language that amplified French Touch's reach. Their warm, cinematic sound—built on vintage synthesizers and careful arrangements—proved French electronic music could work across genres and moods. They appeared on Étienne de Crécy's Super Discount, connecting them to the movement's early days even as they carved their own downtempo path.
